There is plenty of physical evidence that the universe is simulated by
a
finite state machine or a Turing machine.
1. The universe has finite size, mass, and age, and resolution ....
etc.

I assume there is also plenty of evidence that the universe is not
simulated by a Turing machine or any other machine.
I came across this blog
http://www.newscientist.com/blog/technology/2008/01/vr-hypothesis.html
Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal, UK:
“Could we ourselves be in such a computer simulation? Could what we
think of as the universe be some sort of vault of heaven rather than
the real thing?”
Super-computers are used to simulate and explain, discover and extend.
Why be so simplistic and assume that the universe is simulated by this
supersuper-computer (alas god)? Come on, we can do better.
It is nice science fiction, though.
I could say that the universe is a blob. I am not a mathematician or
physicist. I am convinced that I will be able to prove it is a blob in
near future. The blob model, of course, has to be a really good Catch
22 (feedback) system that is foolproof under certain conditions. I am
working on it. Then I can, like most of us, apply it to everything
around us. Everything is blob or blob-blob. Some things are more blob
than others.
