Subject: [Sip-implementors] SIP Phone Switch Off & Deregister

Hi,

I am implementing a solution based on SIP. I am using X-lite version
3.0. I have done the registration part.

I have a few questions about the registration part

1. When I start the Sip phone it registers on my server
and my server sends back a 200 response. Now If I kill the SIPPhone
application from the task manager how can my server find out that the
phone is no longer connected to the server???

>> A registration is valid only for the duration specified through an
EXPIRES header field or an "expires" Contact header parameter (Unless the
client wants server to choose a mechanism to manage registrations). If the
registration bindings are not updated within this interval, the registration
is assumed to be expired.

2. Also when I deregister my phone sends the same
REGISTER request to the server. Currently I am deregistering the phone
if the phone is already registered and there is an entry in my database.
My question here is how do I know if a request is a REGISTER request or
a DEREGISTER request.

>> A REGISTER with Contact:* & Expires: 0 is an indication to de-register
all Contact addresses previously registered. The de-registrations may be
done selectively for some address bindings or for all address bindings.

Have a nice day.

Thanks

Best Regards,

Shrikant
