I think the original desire was to have email sent to the users mail
inbox then delete the message out of sipX entirely. AFAIK this is not
currently planned for any release.

IMAP sync will delete the e-mail if you delete the voicemail via phone or user portal.
If you don't want that to happen, you can setup just email notification without imap sync.
