I was expecting a single pdf inside the original file.

That's the correct set of files in the pdfd. May I ask -- does the pdfd appear as a file or a folder? How do your pdfd bundles normally appear?

Unfortunately
I don't know sh well enough to interpret everything yet.

Likewise.

Thanks.  I'm running the latest version of Mac OS X, but of course
this script should run ok on any unix system.

It works for me on an Intel MacBook, 10.6.7, Skim 1.3.14 and on a PowerPC G5, OS 10.5.8, Skim 1.3.8 w/ or w/o Adam's double-quote change.

Try putting echo "parentFolderExt $parentFolderExt" before that line.
What is the path argument you're giving it?  I think the script is going
to crash and burn if you have spaces in the path, since there's no quoting.

It works for me with or without the double-quoting, calling it with

conv_pdf_w_notes_to_pdfds_03.sh /Users/<user>/Desktop/<user>\'s\ desktop/skim_pdf_pdfd_tests/test\ 15

Sample output with the echo:

/Users/<user>/Desktop/<user>\'s desktop/skim_pdf_pdfd_tests/test 15/dl w note.pdf
parentFolderExt test 15
/Users/<user>/Desktop/<user>\'s desktop/skim_pdf_pdfd_tests/test 15/sub 01/dl w note.pdf
parentFolderExt sub 01
/Users/<user>/Desktop/<user>\'s desktop/skim_pdf_pdfd_tests/test 15/sub 01/sub 02/dl w note.pdf
parentFolderExt sub 02
