RIght, I've got a nice solution for Quicksilver users. Add the directory
where you store the articles to the catalog, tell it to include the Folder
Contents, then, in the 'Source Options' enter pdf if you happen (like me) to
have other files (i.e. .skim files so that DropBox will synchronize your
notes between computers) in there so that it will only pick up the articles.
I can confirm that this does _not_ open the search bar/contents pane.

P.S. I agree with Hans that no Mac is ready without Quicksilver (or
equivalent).
