Unfortunately you will always need the headset to talk on skype. You can turn on skype, start and application before plugging in your headset such as music or reading something with jaws, go to the desktop and then unplug the headset. The headset then will only be used if you want to call someone on skype. If you see me on line, I will be more than glad to help you.
