Hmm, but you can reliably get sound out of skype, right? Can you launch skype then while its running launch any app and see if jaws will run normally I.E> restore audio output? If so, then you might be able to install and run mute.exe under windows XP. Before I continue trying to help, are you running windows XP or vista? If you're running Vista then we'll both be wasting our time as I won't be able to help you and you will essentially be wasting your time trying to solve a very different problem then what I'm detailing here.
