Well, Raaj and list, being somewhat new to the thing, I cannot claim to have
bought a credit. However, I intend to stick to the basic skype, by that I
mean calling people on skype and just paying for the data I send and
download.

I've noticed we have to by skype credit for making phone calls other than
tol-free numbers. but I was unable to understand how much they ask for it

Skype calls to another computer are free but to call a regular
telephone you need to either buy Skype Credit and pay by the
minute or purchase a subscription. There are various
subscriptions available covering either just one country or
anywhere in the world you can call with Skype with a
subscription. Subscriptions are for either three months or one
year.
Check the Skype web site for particulars.
