Sander and Ed helped me out. Problems with jakarta-slide are:
1) The illegal ,v file (apparantly CVS does this sometime). 2) 5 files in the Attic (deep down in the directory structure) whom have very odd characters in their filenames. 3) 3 files for whom a specific tag is wrongly classified as a branch. Otherwise, things work. Options for fixing: A) Edit the current live CVS repo. rm the illegal ,v file; rename the 5 files (or rm them depending on jakarta-slide's preference), edit the 3 files with the bad tag by hand. Then migrate easily. B) Use the --encoding=latin1 and --forcetag arguments and remove the illegal ,v file before the migration.
