Try mgetty. It is more flexible and pretty easy to setup straight out of
the RPM. Only a few adjustments need to be made to the config file and
you are away (man mgetty).
It is also good at controlling the modem for dial-in connections. I have
used mgetty in the past for dial-in PPP links and basically had no
problems what so ever.
If you need a hand configuring mgetty, just yell out.
