Hi,
I'm trying to set up squid on my home network.
My home network connects via an intermittant 28k link to the work
network.
The work network connects via a firewall to the rest of the internet.
The firewall is set up so that only the squid server can talk HTTP
through it.
What I want to do is set up the home squid to treat the internal squid
as its sole parent.
I started out using the Debian packaged squid, but it insisted on
trying to send ICMP echo requests to the source of every page -- which
got caught by the firewall and clogged up the logs.
So I fetched and compiled the source, removing the
PING options at compile time (there didn't seem to be any parameter in
squid.conf to turn it off).
Now the system seems to work for a short while, but becomes clagged
--- the local squid seems to time out very fast after asking its
parent for the data. And then the timeout page seems to be
persistent.
Does anyone have any ideas?
