I am not sure about mulinux, but I know for a fact that tomsrtbt uses a
1.7M format for the floppies. New floppy drives can handle this, but
really old floppy drives can't. If you are using a really old floppy
drive or FD controller (and I have no idea which one makes the
difference :) then that is probably it.
But then if you are booting to a certain point and getting response from
the kernel, then I think that might not be it. Are you using fresh
floppies? Maybe there is a disk error on these bootdisks.
