Apart from our annual general meeting on that date, which
should only take half an hour tops, and which I'll say
more about later, once again I'm hunting presenters.
Lots of people have offered before, why haven't I keep their kind
offers somewhere safe : because I'm not organised!

MYOB had a big booth at the expo. Doug Foskey found 'the' address

Kirrily Robert of Netizen was at the Everything Liunx stand.
She's quite willing to do courses for SLUG as a corporate entity.
That is, we pay the single fee, and then can put as many people
as we like (up to a reasonable number, say 15). She's
quite happy with Saturday. If we have a venue, it's even cheaper.
So two things: who'd like a perl course in late May (beginner, CGI or
MySQL) for about $250 a day.
Second thing: Who'll take down all the names, collect the deposits
(collecting names, unfortunately, doesn't mean commitment) and generally
do the running round. The runner round gets a free day - sound fair.
The runner has to prove they won't go awol!
Remember Kirrily is a professional Perl trainer. Her courses are very
well regarded.

how to be affective. This is extremely important with Alston's
response to the American crap coming up.

A number of us walked away with MP3 players, jazPipers, being sold
for $249 on the last day. Any news of drivers for Linux??? What's your
favorite ripper?

Shane Owenby from Collab.Net was a speaker at the conference. His
company has a very interesting scheme where developers can bid on open
source projects. If you have a project you need doing, you put it up,
if you need to work for money, you bid. They only do 'open source'.
It sounds a great idea. Does anyone have have any experience of this?

We have a number of freebies from the show, stickers, Linuxcare rescue
CD business cards, and a scooter from TurboLinux to raffle off, at the
next meeting, 31st March.

We have an offer from Inprise (Borland). They reckon they have techos
willing to talk about the Delphi port. Any interest? I'm a little wary
in case they send a marketing weenie.

Michael Nordstrm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> came by. Michael is associated
with a group in the south of Sweden / North Denmark. They probably
have a base of about 3,000,000 people. They have 4,900 members!
(Oh yeah, Chris Debona from SVLUG was there, as was Rob Malda from
slashdot)
Michael told me a little how they operate. It costs nothing to become
a member, you sign up webly. Once signed up, you can belong to email
lists, which are also reflected to news servers (you can only access as a
member).
They have meetings, but about 30-40 on the Danish side turn up, less on
the Swedish side.
This is where I got the idea that I was discussing with Kevin Waterson
about multiple mail lists.
We are missing out on providing a service. LUV, for example, has a very
active gamers list.

That about wraps it up. What else have I forgotten? About a million things
probably, and of course I've forgotten to thank all the SLUG people who
turned up and helped, not just in our booth but over at Len/Suse.
