As others have said - it would be server dependant. The client (or "DNS"
as a whole) would never have any idea how many hosts you had. Dont forget
that any secondaries will have to download/store this file, so they might
not be too happy about it either.

We have a zone with about 50,000 hosts in it (dont ask...) - no problems
at all.

Possibly performance (depends on the DNS server), memory, disk and bandwidth
to secondaries would be the few things which come to mind.
