Ok - A lot of people have mailed me for details of how to implement virus
protection for a mail spool, and as a result protect all of the users of
that mail spool. Given there is so much interest within SLUG alone, It
looks like this would make a good open source project.
So - I'm open-sourcing the mail spool software as it exists (a few perl
scripts and good ideas really), and will start a project to enhance,
evolve and develop a more seemless solution.
This would likely include:
1. A Daemon re-written in 'C' rather then perl. (primarily for security
reasons)
2. A Web-Based configuration capability.
3. An enhanced smtpd - or fixes for a few problems in smtpd. The
Copyright of smtpd nees to be investigates - and a replacement written
if necessary.
4. MTA Neutral.
Now for the hard part - I need a funky name !
Could anybody who is interested in contributing to this project please
contact me via Email ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). I will arrange a site on
SourceForge and will let people know the details when they are available.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to do it all myself - It would be
great if there were enough interest for this to start as a SLUG based
project.
