Correct me if I'm wrong but no matter which way we go about this and no
matter which mail server is used going "in to in", "in to out", "out to in"
there is a mail spool created right!?
Well as long as there is an antivirus program scanning files at real time
these spools will be scanned... the question is will it scan a spool file
that has a uuencoded file in it?????

It doesn't really need to be.. I have it start like this
su -c mail "/usr/sbin/smtp-virus"
That way.. it's running as mail..
However, it would be nice to make the whole lot run in a "chroot" jail.

Hmm.. How bout just a text config file for starters... web stuff could
come later.

I have already fixed most of the problems with smtpd, you can get the RPM
and SRPM from either the freshmeat archives ftp://ftp.freshmeat.net
or from the redhat contrib
ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/redhat-contrib/libc6/i386/obtuse-smtpd*
Someone should look at the debian built version, see if it needs any of my
changes.

It kinda is already.. The main difficulty is you need to make the MTA not
listen on port 25... as long as you can do that, it's pretty straight
forward.. So Qmail is definately a yes.. Dunno about Postfix and others..
