Steven,
This is normal. Most of your memory will probably be in buffers or cache
(which is cache memory). There is no reason to keep more than a few meg
free as it is better used caching your disk. When programs require this
memory, it will be flushed from cache and given to the process requesting
it.
(This is a very general statement, not meant to be an analysis of the VM
system)
