No, except for one thing.

Live CDs like Knoppix and Morphix often probe for- and put icons on the
desktop for- existing hard drive partitions.

It won't deliberately touch them, but if you open those "partitions" and
muck with them, then yes, you can make a mess.

So, leave the hard drive alone and you'll be fine :)
