Basic media centers are in almost every shops in Sim Lim (last time I checked, around 3 months ago). They are very small machines with limited software. In other words they are great value for money (few hundred dollars only), but if you need more you'll get stuck since there is no upgrade path. I elected to use a regular machine with a media centre software instead. For instance I use a Shuttle casing (any small and quiet casing would do), with a regular mother board and a graphic card that is capable of doing hardware video decoding (to play 1080p videos without monopolizing the CPU). Software-wise I recommend XMBC (works on Linux, windows and a few other systems). MythTV is there too, but I haven't tried since XMBC worked smooth for me straight away. And because it's a regular (albeit small form factor) PC, I can do anything I want under Linux or Windows without any limitation (work/games/media centre). PCs are cheap to upgrade if necessary, and software upgrades are standard Linux/Windows/XMBC/MythTV upgrades. Hope this helps. Have a nice day, Fabrice. -- Fabrice A.
