Thanks for the reply, maybe I wasn't clear about my requirements...

quiet  - while looking good, many of the cases come with 60mm fans,
which eventually lead to a hig
ir - Infra Red receiver (even better if transmitter is included) - need to
control StarHub box somehow :)
vfd - it should look and feel like an amplifier, including the small lcd
text and buttons to operate it.

all the other stuff (like disks space, motherboard size etc) should be
fairly standard.

I'm happy mythtv + xmbc for many years now, I use mythtv mainly for
recording from SH and recording from remote mythtv (my home country) and
watch it locally on my tv.

another interesting option is boxee
