Both yes and no. The distance clients probably don't hear the client already so no probably wouldn't matter. Also by turning down the power on the close by clients the AP hear all clients equally. That way if a close up client start to speak it will "overrun" any clients at longer distance. Imagine yourself a crowd with a speaker at a podium. If the guys on the front row yells to the speaker and someone at the rear try to yell at the same time then the speaker will not hear the guy in the back due to the guy in the front row. But if the front guys speak and then guy in back yells so the speak hear them equally strong then the guy at the podium can hear that they both try to speak at the same time. And this will allow for clients further out to have a better chance of getting heard and with some smart usage or RTS you can make sure that they both get a fairly equal chance of getting heard.
