Too much weight. My laptop will give me a good 12 hours of battery power so I only need power for the SB. My extremely small and lightweight solution uses a 9.6V NiCd RC card battery and the parts needed to put power on pins 4,5,7 and 8. This provides more than enough power for what I need.

As for the other part of my problem, the location with unusual power sources, I have resolved this as well. Since I never got the info I was after, I cracked open a unit and figured out the min and max operating voltages. Actually, the unit was already cracked as it was backed over by a truck. Does warranty cover this? :-)

I have to say that these canned responses from SmartBridges are getting irritating. For example, I am tired of people asking how to get PPPoE working with the new firmware and a hardware firewall only to be told to use RasPPPoE. I love the products and the company (for the most part) but if I hear another canned response I think I will lose control.

We've just thrown a 500VA power strip UPS into a backpack
and gone up on a roof with it. It powers the laptop if
needed and powers the radio. They can be found at CompUSA
or any office supply store for about $69-79.
