When I say bill per bit I don't mean actually bill per bit transferred in the sense that I actually charge for every bit. As you say when they surpass their monthly usage limit they get charged extra depending how much more they use. We do it for our wireless customers and do it for our webhosting customers. It's nothing stranger to most customers then paying for extra air time on their cellphone where they might have say 800minutes per month. Use more then 800 minutes and they start to pay per minute.
But we do it per Gig. The customers have a way to know how much they used each month and when they get to 80% they get a automated e-mail informing them that they have no used 80% of their allotment for that month this way they have a early warning. My IP accounting system could be fixed to drop the bandwidth throughput to a client when they hit their limit. There is not automated things in Mikrotik today but not impossible to write a external program to do so and since the ip accounting is going to be external any way it shouldn't be hard to fix so that it can throttle them back. If your in the states I might have a credit card solution for you that might allow you little more flexibility and wouldn't have to force your clients to signup and use paypal.
