More
info: My 3rd and final misbehaving airBridge is now fixed. I was
JUST about to climb the roof for a radio replacement when I decided to try
something first.
First
thing I noticed on this unit, which has been down for 1.5 days, is that the
Ethernet light on the NIC was not illuminated. That initially had me
thinking the airBridge was bad. I then unplugged the chrome power cable
from the POE unit and plugged it back in. I instantly got my green light
on the NIC again and was able to ping the airBridge again. A couple
seconds later I regained association and was able to surf.
I then
unplugged the chrome power connector and plugged it back in again. I lost
association (obviously), but did not gain it back. I did this while having
2 DOS windows open and a constant ping to both the airBridge and the
Gateway. The airBridge would always regain its ping response immediately
after restoring power...but the association would sometimes not come back (the
ping back to the gateway). So...I continued to play with the plug until I
found a very small "sweet spot" where if I unplugged the chrome connector and
plugged it back in (while in that exact small sweet spot), the unit would regain
association every time. However, anywhere else around the 360 degree axis
would not.
So...I
tried another POE unit (with same wall power supply) and tried this all over
again. The new POE unit worked better but not flawlessly. This unit
had a VERY large sweet spot and very small bad spot (opposite of other POE
unit). So...I made a couple white hash marks on the chrome connector that
ensures that I always had the alignment correct when unplugging and plugging it
back in. When properly aligned, the unit would always regain
association.
So...I
believe the radio is good and the POE is crap!!!!
Hope
this info helps some others from pulling there hair out...or going through the
RMA process for radios.
