I don't usually put my 2 cents in on this forum, but here goes anyway. My perfect cell site would be this. 1 omni 8 or 10 purchased from www.hyperlinktech.com http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hgv_2410u.php or http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hg2412u.php $50-$60 ( these are some of the best antenna's for the price you will find) With a 1 watt amp purchased from http://www.fab-corp.com/H1.htm $399 Made by teltronics. With a airPoint indoor in a climate control box at the base of the tower. I figure you can go about $250ft with lmr 400 and over 300 with lmr 600, because of the dc power injector at the base of the tower. Basically the amp is so important because not only does that give you 30dbm out of the antenna port instead of the 17 that an APPO gives you but it also gives you 17dbm of receive strength its like taking every one of your subscribers and giving them a uni 30 instead of a uni 13. BIG DIFFERENCE. Now I know what all of you are thinking. FCC FCC FCC fact is, that FCC guidelines say no more than 36 dbm coming out of your antenna at the cell site. That is why you use an omni 8 or an omni 10. With 10 ft of cable and a couple of connections you should be right on the FCC guidelines. With this system you would also need a Weather proof climate control box or a good building. This is a box I would definitely recommend http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3035908761&category=1 1175 I know this guy personally and he has these boxes specially manufactured buy a local company. Very high quality. Oh also lightning arrestors, very important. The other nice thing about this system is that if you do have a bad radio, not only is it fairly in expensive to change ($189), but you only have to go to the base of the tower also. No climbing!! Well there is my 2 cents guys see what you think. To all: Basically where I stand: I have asked a local ISP (whom I am partnered with) to provide bandwidth and the financial support of purchasing the equipment/site rental fee (very low for the high-profile site it is), in exchange for letting me manage the network, and do all of the customer installations (hence this is the part will I will get my money's worth in the deal) I need to provide them with a COMPLETE proposal of this whole thing, and right now, this is what I am going to propose to them: (3) SmartBridges AirPoint Pro Outdoor @ $330.00 ea = $990.00 (3) Maxrad 120 degree beamwidth antenna @ $407.52 ea = $1222.56 (3) LMR-400 4ft jumper coax cable @ $24.00 ea = $72.00 (3) Polyphaser 2.4ghz coaxial lightning protectors @ $35.66 ea = $106.98 This isn't including any routing equipment/UPS power protection/rack cabinet, cat5 cable, etc... Has anyone needed to use polyphasers? We use them as a standard where you have 100-300 foot hardline runs, but in this case, it's ethernet cable. But I don't feel like climbing up the 300 foot tower to replace a blown radio either. This brings me to another point, are SB's products reliable enough that I won't need to spend my entire life climbing the tower to fix them or reflash them? Has anyone had to do the dirty and go up to a huge tower and replace them? I plan on mounting the antenna's with a bit of a downtilt, but all at the top of the 300' tower, because I am looking for long-range performance. Any methods for calculating downtilt that work good? I've used my knowledge in the broadcast/radio industry to make my own calculations, and with the use of ComStudy (an excellent program for calculating RF propagation) -- Best regards, Chris Bunting, MCSE President Cellular: 717-278-6639 Nextel ID: 196*50*18726 -------------------------------------------------------- Proxim Certified Reseller & Installer -------------------------------------------------------- Lancaster Networks | Lancaster Towers 1085 Manheim Pike Lancaster PA 17601 www.lancasternetworks.com www.lancastertowers.com -------------------------------------------------------- Friday, July 18, 2003, 12:56:37 AM, you wrote: BF> Return-Path: <> BF> Received: from [66.150.163.162] (HELO m5) BF> by spamarrest.com (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 4.0.3) BF> with ESMTP id 10160550 for cbunting; Thu, 17 Jul 2003 21:56:14 -0700 BF> Received: from part-15.org ([198.63.203.3]) BF> by mail.fission2.com (Merak 5.9.4) with SMTP id CPA74271 BF> for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Fri, 18 Jul 2003 00:53:57 -0400 BF> Received: from airrun.net [65.174.66.2] by pdqlink.com with ESMTP BF> (SMTPD32-4.07) id AF0D490146; Fri, 18 Jul 2003 00:01:01 CDT BF> Received: from wsk1-blk.airrun.net ( [192.168.2.10] [EMAIL PROTECTED]) BF> by airrun.net with ESMTP (IOA-IPAD 3.75f/96) id E772600 BF> for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Thu, 17 Jul 2003 23:53:09 -0500 BF> Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> BF> X-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] BF> X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.2.0.9 BF> Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 23:56:37 -0500 BF> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] BF> From: Bill Flood <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> BF> In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> BF> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> BF> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> BF> Mime-Version: 1.0 BF> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed BF> Subject: Re: Re[2]: [smartBridges] New Firmware BF> Precedence: bulk BF> Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] BF> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] BF> Hey Harry take a hike!
