Basically, for the same power antennas, let's say 10db omni and a 10db sector, basic logic suggests that a 180 degree sector would go twice as far as an omni, because the power that was directed all around, is now directed in half of that area. Actual real world results will of course vary.
The more focused the beam, the farther it will travel. Just like holding your thumb over the end of a garden hose. The tighter you hold your thumb on it, the more focused the stream gets, and the farther it shoots.
