Bobby, 1) Our current engineering guys are working on tightening the grip of the barrel connector. This one we have found to be an issue and corrective steps are being taken.
2) It is not possible to "zap" the internals of the powerShot. It includes the protection circuits that people seem to be discussing many times. Please see below a paragraph from the specification page - The powerShotT has a built-in surge protection circuit. This circuit provides protection from over voltage caused by ESD (Electro Static Discharge), EFT (Electrical Fast Transients) and Lightning. The ESD protection is designed to withstand to IEC 61000-4-2 specifications of 15KV *. The lightning protection is also designed to withstand to IEC 61000-4-5 specification for 12A (8/20 micro seconds)i *. Hope this addresses your questions. Same kind of flaky behavior. Also replaced a transformer with the crappy connector that has to be in just the right position to stay on. There is a possibility the powershots are crapping out due to atmospheric induced surge (i.e. electrical storm activity). So, the CAT 5 you are running outside is inducing a small charge in the wire and traveling in both directions, in this case enough to screw up the powershot but not enough to zap the radio. SB, seems totally unwilling to honestly discuss this topic. Wish I knew why. So, here are a couple of questions, on the troublesome installs: 1. What type of CAT 5 are you running outdoors? 2. Are you using any CAT 5 surge device?...or COAX LDP?
