For the aP Totals and aB Totals I'm using an APC Back-UPS CS 500 with built-in DSL/Ethernet surge protection. I also connect the PoE to this using a custom made extension lead so the radio(s) have a UPS capability. Any external antennas I will install with an in-line lightning and surge protector.
Does this do away with the need for shielded CAT5? PS... Most outdoor installs have the radio near the antenna, within 10 feet. That's not likely enough cable to pick up much lightning surge. Especially if the antenna and aBO are on the same pole, then it's really a waste of money and effort to add lightning protection. Just take care of the ethernet.
