Sully,
Yes, let me know how those units work. I would like to continue to have faith in sb as they are the only one I have found that have an outdoor, 2.4, DSSS unit with that distance range that we can afford. I am looking for alternatives, just to try different vendors, but so far I haven't found anything that would be a direct replacement for my APPOs.

I feel you pain….deep down!!! Sounds like my exact scenario…with one exception…I have been using their equipment since Dec last year. It was awesome up until June. I was expanding faster than I could keep up. Then WHAMMO. I still have faith in sB though. I know we are dealing with some VERY smart, VERY hard workers. Of course they want their company to succeed as well, and therefore will fix this problem.
Unfortunately, we are losing tons of money in the mean time.
I have a new shipment coming in on Monday-Tuesday. I will be putting up 21 new units between Tuesday and Thursday. I will keep you posted on the results.

When we decided to expand our business into the wireless arena about six months ago, I did a lot of research and talked to several WISPs before deciding what equipment to use. At that time, smartBridges was everyone's darling and highly recommended. By the time we got to actually putting up equipment in late June / early July, the problems had started showing up and everyone is dissing sb. But I had already invested my expansion capital in this equipment so moved ahead with the project. Now my techs are yelling at me about this "crap" equipment as I continue to try and defend my decision to go with sb. But they basically told me last night that they DO NOT want to use sb for our next POP. I continue to try and defend this equipment because when it is good, it is very good. It is the only option out there, that I know of, that can do the kind of range we need in a price range we can afford to deploy in rural areas where customers think $100 for equipment is too high. We are having to finance the cost of the CPE even though it is less than $300. At this point I don't know what to do. We are trying to get as many customers up and running as possible before a very aggressive, very hostile competitor goes live on Sept. 1st. But with radios going down on a daily basis, I don't know if we are going to survive or not. We had planned on having our second POP up by Oct. 1st, but are spending all our time resetting and replacing equipment on our first one, while trying to do installs at the same time. I am not dissing sb, I just need answers, and I need equipment that works reliably.

Well hopefully it is something simpler I for one have had it the only thing thats going to save me from NOT switching to something else is SB going to one of the WISPS such as you self Gloria and telling us what we are doing wrong..
And even then I will have a bad taste in my mouth over this whole thing..

Well, we did another water tower climb (my guys just LOVE doing that) and replaced the power supply last night. It is up for now, we will see how long it lasts this time. Now I have another one down - same problem, Ethernet side dead. This is the first time this one has gone down, it has been very reliable ever since we put them up about 3 weeks ago. <sigh>

Gloria,
Was the box labeled with the "Must Load FIRMWARE....blah" message on the outside of the box?
If so, you most likely received one of the "bad chipset" units (or a couple of them). You are describing the EXACT same thing that happened to me. The only thing you can do is RMA them both and hope they send you the "replaced chipset" units.
I replaced EVERYTHING twice...and I mean EVERYTHING except the freaking antenna mast itself.
Good luck!

Anyone got suggestions as to what is causing one of my APPOs to go down? We have had to climb the water tower and reset it three times in the last week. We replaced the POE on Wednesday and it went down again Thursday. I ordered a new unit overnighted and replaced the unit last night. It worked great all day today, but is down again now. The outdoor rated cat-5 run is only about 20 feet, the cable was tested with a cable tester before putting it in place, everything is water proofed (even though we haven't had rain in months). What else is there? The POE was replaced, the entire unit was replaced, and we still have the same exact problem. When it does this, the Ethernet LED is off, the Power and TXRX LED is on solid, and we have no communication with it. Did I get so lucky as to get two bad units with the same exact problem? The only item that has not been replaced is the power supply - could that be bad? All the other units on the water tower are working fine since I upgraded the firmware last Sunday. They are all plugged into the same switch, which is plugged into a UPS and all of it is in an air conditioned NEMA box.
smartBridges tech - or anyone - help!
Thanks!
Gloria
