Ahhh.
Don't feel too bad, it has happened to all of us. Everyone on this at one time AND another. It'll happen again. Remember you are dealing with 'Black Magic"
After you guys get stuff fixed up , the tower will just be a pain in the wallet rather than a pain in the ass.
You'll have fond memories.

I heard that! We have our own key to the water tower so we don't have to
tell anyone we are going out there. The cops did come out one night when
just my two techs were out there without me. Some neighbor called the
police and told them there were "kids" on the water tower. They had to show
their ID and company business cards. The police chief knows about us since
we are providing service to the city in exchange for use of the tower, but I
guess he didn't bother to tell his officers. My top tech does most of the
climbing and he is getting to where he just looks up at the tower, sighs,
and scurries up the tower. It used to take him about 10 minutes to climb,
but he has done it so much now that it only takes him a couple of minutes to
make the 130' climb. I just hope this nonsense doesn't last too much
longer, I hope the replacement radios I get this week will be the end of the
daily climbs.

You know... One water tower that I'm on I have to tell the local PD.
Anymore, I don't have to walk all the way in... I just have to drive to

the

front, wave at the dispatcher, and they wave back... I go on up the tower.

I used to get the police called on me cause "someone's up on the water
tower" and they could come up... now.. they'll come by to BS with me when

I

get down... That's REALLY sad when it's normal for you to be up the
tower...

I will have to remember to send a camera up the water tower with my tech

the

next time he goes up to reset one (or more) of them, which will probably

be

in the next 12 - 24 hours. The only one we have that is different is the
only one working and it is on the water tower. I don't have any spares -
the only one I have that is not installed is the one I pulled down

Thursday

night that was locking up.

I am appreciative of the support smartBridges seems to be giving me - and
allowing me to RMA directly to them, but I haven't had time today to fill
out four RMA forms with all the questions about what testing I have or
haven't done, the invoice number (which I have to go back through

paperwork

to find), etc., etc. Why can't they just send us advance replacements for
the bad ones then we can do the paperwork after we take the bad ones out

of

service?

Sorry, I really don't like to bitch and complain, it is a waste of energy.
But I am fighting a battle here and seem to be losing..........

Thanks to all for your help and support,
Gloria

Can you send a picture of what the BIG LED VS the SMALL LED looks like I
will have to look at mine now to see what's up. I bet you there was no

two

different lines but instead two different facilities all together making
these units for them and one facility screwed the pooch trying to be

cheap

and make more money by using a lower grade chip.

Well, I have no doubt now, in my mind at least, that the problem is the
smartBridges equipment now. Just got back from the water tower to reset

the

one that was down, the one we replaced Thursday night with a new unit.

We

had to repower it 8 times before it would come back up. The power would
come on, the Ethernet LED would come on solid, but the TXRX LED would

not

come on at all. After 8 times of resetting the power it finally came

back

up. Another reason I am sure now that it is the airPoints - I just

realized

that I have one unit, out of five, that has not locked up (yet). And my
techs told me that it physically looks different from the other ones -

they

said the LEDs are a little bigger and brighter - could this mean that it

was

from a different manufacturing lot than the other ones? Sounds like it

to

me. I am not bashing smartBridges, but I do think I got some bad units.

I

am going to RMA all but the one that hasn't locked up and hope the
replacements come in before I lose the few customers I have. In the

mean

time we will be climbing the water tower at least once a day to reset

them

until the replacements get here.

That is definitely one to throw into my bag-o-knowledge! Thanks.

Ya...that aint the issue here though. Some of these units are indoors,
some are in NEMA enclosures, some are outdoors.

I have such a wide range of everything, and have tried EVERYTHING, that
I am left with only one conclusion.

Bad sB stuff.

I will be replacing it all this week. Will keep you posted.

I had a similar problem, ended up I did a shitty job os sealing the
connector(beer was involved)but it was like clock work the sun would
come up
APPO would go down for about an hour untill the moisture was dried out
by
the sun. Don't sound like your problem though, but hopes this helps
some.

Are you sure you don't have an interference problem? We had an ABO that would lose association once or twice per day, even with the new firmware. I went out there, replaced and re-aimed the antenna, replaced the LMR-400 jumper, and it was been solid ever since then.

Damn it! This is getting ridiculous. I know that sB has been very
responsive.and has also sent me directly a bunch of new units (which
should be here Monday or Tuesday), but DAMN IT!

At approximately 9:45 am my head-end unit went down taking everyone

with

it. I received a page, and was able to do a manual power reset on it
within a few minutes (it was not responding to anything on the

Ethernet

or Wireless side). This brought it back online and all the clients as
well (except a couple of troubled airBridge units with crappy chips in
them). Then 5 minutes later, four client airBridge units lost
association never to regain it. I had to call the clients and have

them

do a manual power reset to get them back online.

OF SPECIAL NOTE: My new airPoint (indoor) which I am using at a

client's

house in CB mode has also lost association. I used the aPi because I
thought it had not been affected by the "crappy chip syndrome".

But.it

is down. It went down within minutes of the others.

Okay.I will try to make this short.I have been going back and forth

with

this for 50 minutes now. The head-end keeps going down every few
minutes. At first the clients will start dropping off the associated
list then it just craps out all together. I have now unplugged it for
10 minutes hoping that when I plug it back in, it will stay up. I am
sure all my clients are BITCHING at me right now!!!!!!!!

The client units are dropping like flies. I have 18 airBridge units
deployed from the June batch. Of them, 12 have lost association in

the

past 1 hour. I guess the other 6 must have received the good chips on
the other production line (no joke).

Oh.I guess I should tell you this. It is a SCORCHER here in Monterey.
Not!!!!
74F
Fair Feels Like 74F
UV Index: 4 Low
Dew Point: 59F
Humidity: 59%
Visibility: Unlimited
Pressure: 29.98 inches and steady
Wind: From the East Southeast at 6 mph

From 0945 to 1045 every day is a scary time for me. It is not the
hottest part of the day, but it is the time when all my units become
FLAKY! It was around 63 last night and when the morning sun hits

these

units all of a sudden.and the temperature starts rising quickly.then

the

units lose association. It is not that they are HOT.cause they are

not.

It is the temperature change that does it. I just jumped up on the

roof

and felt my head-end..it is just warm.

If the units I receive on Monday-Tuesday don't fix this problem.I am
done. Truly done with sB. No self-respecting business man many would
put loyalty to a supplier over the existence of his own company. If
they do.they are sure to die.

PLEASE DON'T ANYONE EVEN TRY TO TELL ME HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS
PROBLEM. IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM!!!!

Sully

p.s. The 10 minute "cooling down period" has allowed everyone to
reassociate and stay online for 5 minutes now. Except the "crappy

chip"

airBridge units and the newly installed airPoint indoor.
