Totally different hardware. The AirBridge is a much less expensive piece of equipment that, in their mind, was intended to be a simple transparent bridge, and so the hardware was designed as such. Because we all screamed that we wanted to remotely manage those devices we had to give up something or pay the extra money for the APPO and use it in bridge mode. They gave us what we asked for, but at a price.
(all speculation on my part of course...) Now the question is, if you have multiple clients behind an AirBridge that you are bandwidth shaping based on their MAC address, then why not use an APPO in bridge mode anyway. If it's part of your backhaul or feeding an MTU than you want something more than just a simple bridge. If it's just one client with multiple computers then you can just shape their bandwidth usage by the single MAC of the AB. Just a thought. I know nothing about your network and your usage of the AB in this instance.
