I'd say it is not new. I recently had two APPOs that started exhibiting
this behavior after 6 months of perfect performance. It happened after I
upgraded the firmware, and switched the operational modes, and
everything went to pot. They exhibited the same behavior you are
describing (except only when in access point mode - bridge or client
modes were fine). Also, the ethernet "went away" for only about 10
minutes at a time, then would reappear.

I never got to the bottom of it - decided to stop wasting my time and
worked around it with other gear.
