Bobby, I fully agree that it is necessary on occasion to need to do a power
cycle. However when you have to powercycle ever few days I believe there
is a problem.
We have airbridges that were installed 7 or 8 months ago and have never
been powercycled. We have airpoints installed and rarely if ever powercycle
them. We have a whole NOC full of gear that has been running for several years
without a powercycle. (Well some of them recently got powercycled when the UPS
died but it wasn't because they needed it).
Having to tell the customer "just keep powercycling it, it will
eventually start working again" is not a good way to keep customers, especially
business customers.

John,
In regards to the power cycling service call you
have related; as you may know it is not uncommon to have to cycle power on SB
as well as other brands of bridges from time to time, especially, we've found
within a day or two of the install. We think maybe the ARP entries get out of
sync or something like that. This need to power cycle seems to be a fact of
life with SB and other makes as well. Our customers have become adept at this
and that's the first thing we train them to do if they cannot connect. They
don't even call us anymore for this once we train them. In your case, I'm
guessing the bridge did not loose association, I'll bet it lost comm back to
the customer's router or NIC.
Sorry to hear about your RMA troubles. I have a
half dozen dead SB units I need to RMA today. Hope I don't have the same
problems.

Dear Smartbridges,
After contacting you to RMA a malfunctioning AirPoint Pro, you
insisted that it had to be returned to where we bought it. Just this
afternoon we received a call from them saying "What do you want us to do
with this Airpoint Pro? They don't make them anymore!". That's why we wanted
to return it to you directly in the first place. We have been without the
radio for over 3 weeks now and were expecting a replacement to show up at
any time. Now it looks like nothing will ever show up.
We also received 3 NEW Smartbridges on Friday. We decided to plug
them in and let them run over the weekend to burn them in. They seemed to
work OK so I just installed one of them this afternoon. One half hour after
I left the customer it quit working. Seems it lost association. I had to
drive back out to power cycle it. The customer is not happy. We are not
happy.
Now you tell us the last "for sure fix" didn't really fix anything
after all.

Subject: [smartBridges] Beta Firmware
Testing
Dear
Friends,
We have released
beta firmware that would resolve occasional disassociation after long
period of operation which requires either power cycle or software reset
the unit in order to re-associate. Internally, we have added watch-dog
feature to monitor the association.
If you have any
airPointPro in Client Bridge/Repeater mode or airBridge that exhibit the
problem, we would like you to write to us offline to [EMAIL PROTECTED] so
that we can send you the firmware and the instruction to test in the
field.
Thanks and
regards,
