Yes. The new firmware will work with the following setup (ABT2).

3. Fiber...Mikrotik...APPO - - - - - - ABT1...(swich)...APPO - - - - - - - ABT2...Client Router

You can connect ABT to the client router and then you should able to connect many PCs behind the router. The new firmware will definitely work with this setup.  This method is good, if you DO NOT want to pass the clients MAC to the Miktrotik. Some times you may need those MAC addresses for the accounting purpose. In this case, you can use APPO in CB mode and it will provide complete transparent bridging which allows clients MAC to pass thru.

However, the new firmware will not work with the following scenario and you need to downgrade to old firmware (please go thru the link for the more details)

Are you saying that item 1 in your message below will work with 0.01.07 formware? What if the client uses a router instead of a PC?

Will this work?

Hi Pascal,

As you mentioned, you can use APPO instead of ABO and it will allow more MAC comparing to ABO.

The ABO does the Multi MAC translation and it is not a transparent device.

As far the APPO in CB mode concerned, it will act as a transparent device which means the client PCs MAC address will be able to pass thru the APPO. Since this mode supports more client and transparent bridging, you could try this solution for your deployment.

On the ABO at the switch, you can use the firmware 0.01.07 or 0.01.08(Multi MAC & remote management) which supports the PPPoE protocol using any PPPoE client including WinXP PPPoE client.

The firmware supports for the following scenario and no need to use 0.09.10 firmware(single MAC only). You may need this firmware, if you want to connect your routers LAN port directly to the ABO. Since the APPO is connected to the router on the both scenario, the single MAC firmware is not required.

1.  Fiber...Mikrotik...APPO - - - - - - ABO...(swich)...APPO - - - - - - - ABO...Client PC

2. Fiber...Mikrotik...APPO - - - - - - ABO...(router)...APPO - - - - - - - ABO...Client PC

You can choose either ABO or APPO, both will support PPPoE traffic, multi MAC and remote management features.

Please let me know if you need any further clarifications.  Thank you

Kind regards,

Seeni

Some say I need to replace first ABO with APPO, since it allow more than 64 Mac & APPO will not NAT.

On the ABO at the switch , Do I need to install formware 0.09.10  ???? or is 1.0.08 ???

Or maybe I should really go & install an APPO instead of ABO.

Also,

If I use remote management with 0.09.10 do I only loose it for this AB or for complete network pass this ABO ???

Yes, option #1 is simple in terms of implementation. However, please remember that in order to use PPPOE, you have to "Allow non IP traffic" in the Advance Tab of each aPPO.

Is this OK          ???       1.  Fiber...Mikrotik...APPO - - - - - - ABO...(swich)...APPO - - - - - - - ABO...Client PC

                     or this     2. Fiber...Mikrotik...APPO - - - - - - ABO...(router)...APPO - - - - - - - ABO...Client PC

I know option #2 is good, but I would like prefer using #1 since no need to installed PPPOE router at other tower.

Yes. The current devices are (APPO & ABO) supports this configuration.  We have already tested this configuration and it is perfectly fine.

Subject: [smartBridges] Smartbridge Configuration Issue

I got a tower in place that has 2 smartbridge radios hung on it.  The first radio is a Air Bridge Outdoor attached to a 24 dbi grid that is talking to a POP 3.5 miles away.  On the other side of the tower, I have a AirPointPro Outdoor attached to a 95 degree Sector Antenna pointing toward wireless clients.

The radios are connected to each other using a 4 port hub and one client computer is also connected to that same hub.

The network looks like this:

POPABOhubAPPOclients

The problem is that right now all the clients are using a common IP Subnet as the ABO (10.6.0.12, 255.255.248.0, POP Gateway 10.6.0.1).  I have several devices behind the APPO and wondered if I could stick a Cisco 2514 (2 ethernet ports, first one being on the 10.6.0.0 network, and the second on the 192.168.1.0 network) between the ABO and the APPO and hand the clients DHCP IP addresses generated by the router in the 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 subnet

Technically will this work using my current equipment?

Thanks,

Robin
