I do not mean replacing gear after 3-5 years because of problems or breakdowns, I am referring to as wireless technology gets better we may find oursleves providing TV signal or dial tone over a wireless link. That is my plan anyways. Over time the technology will become more available and affordable to do this.
In my particular situation my customers purchase the equipment, there is no lease or rental available. I do not want to sit on a pile of $$$ over the next ? years. My monthly charge is reflected by the outright purchase of the gear. The public is now getting use to the fact that what they buy today is obsolete in 3-5 years. Home computers are the same deal. The big corp guys? If you can service people with a smile and in a reasonable amount of time you will win. If you cannot be competitive pricing wise you need to look at what additional services you can offer that the other guy cannot to stay ahead of them. Being a smaller ISP gives the ability to move fast on our feet. The Earthlink's of the world cannot. One can make just as much money on having a bigger market share and charging less than having fewer and charging more. In fact, it makes your company worth more in the long run. I see other wireless companies charging just unbelieveable prices for service. You can sell 100 or you can sell 1000, I will take the 1000 and make less per customer. Without equipment leasing the overhead is gone. I am priced so low right now that I would find it doubtful if anyone would even try and come in and compete. I am the only available broadband in my area and I am selling at a price that is competitive with broadband providers outside my area. I could charge a lot more. Why don't I? I want a large customer base - bottome line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Homer Parker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2003 11:47 AM Subject: Re: [smartBridges] hardware mis-match > On Sun, 26 Oct 2003 11:40:29 -0600 > "Derek Breiland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Does technology remain the same long enough to worry about this? 3 > > years (5 years max) from now we will all be out installing something > > bigger and better anyways, don't you think? > > I've got installs that have been out there over 3 years now and have > never had to go back and adjust, rework or anything..
