No, what I am saying is that on my setup my APPO with the omni is set to ethernet because it runs to a switch and then out my PtP link back to my NOC.  That isn't true for everyone, just my setup.  You would have to take it on a case by case basis, just like any network.  What I am telling Rick is that he needs to lay it out on paper and go from there which way he needs to configure the primary port.  Here's mine:

Believe me it took a little while to get it all worked out but it all works great now.  You just have to know where you are coming from and where you want to go.

HMM interesting so you say that on my APPO's at all my towers I should set the primary port as Ethernet? I didn't even think about that because if I remember correct by default they are set to wireless?

        Yes I have the MAC of the opposite APPO in for the WB authentication method.  I also have 128-bit WEP turned on.  The reason I have a GW is that I have a mikrotik router in between my NOC and my wireless service.  Don't forget that it is important to not confuse a GW with the primary port setting.  The primary port setting is very important b/c it tells the radio which interface to pass traffic.  I have had to scratch my head so many times b/c I didn't set that one setting correctly.  Just remember, which direction do I want to pass traffic from<<>>to?  For me, WB1 is ethernet because it needs to go out my switch/router/internet and back through the ethernet to get to where it was coming from.  At my tower, coming from the omni-AP its primary port is ethernet and the tower PtP (WB2) primary port is set to wireless b/c that is the interface the traffic from my NOC is coming from to get back to the clients.  Clear as mud?  Once you get the hang of it is no big deal.  When I test it in the office I always make sure that I can get to the Internet AND manage ALL the devices with only changing the IP of my laptop.  That way I know that everything is working.

Here is how I setup mine in Wireless Bridge mode.  I have had it running since December of last 2002 without a hiccup.  As a matter of fact it is the only piece of wireless equipment that I haven't had any problems with.  The only thing I can say is like everyone else it sure would be nice to have the ability to see RSSI/LQ in WB mode.

Sorry if the statement has been confused to you, but basically that is referring to the setup of the point to point wireless bridge mode. If you want to have a solution to connect LAN to LAN connection then I would recommend you to setup point to point WB mode using two APPO devices. Basically this mode is used to connect site to site (two LAN networks) connectivity as in corporate building setups or can be used as backhauls connecting distance PoPs to the central NOC.

In this mode, there is no MAC limitation and it is unlimited.

 

The CB mode intended for the CPE which is limited by 128 MAC addresses.

 

Here is the example of setting up the wireless bridge mode using two APPO.

 

Both APPO units are to be set as Wireless Bridge mode –point to point mode, input the MAC address of the opposite unit and set them on the same channel You can confirm the LINK by pinging from both side.  Set your PC to the same IP subnet as the device (Example 192.168.0.x )and try to ping to the opposite device.

 

NOC _____Router_____Switch_____WB1…………………………WB2_____Client PCs (on an Ethernet switch)

                                         

WB1 = primary port ETHERNET

WB2 = primary port WIRELESS

 

The default gateway will be the IP address of the Router for all devices.  I hope this info helps.

    This is confusing. You are telling me that both airPoint Pro's have to be in Wireless Bridge mode?

    You told me before that the way to do what I am trying to do is, and I quote:

    I'm not sure I understand the difference. Last night I got that to work (Access Point to Client Bridge) and I was able to see several MAC#'s, unless they were all proxying through one device.

 

    I need the solution that best bridges one LAN to another LAN without the low MAC# limitation.

 

    Please advise.

An airPoint configured in Wireless Bridge Mode can only associate with another airPoint also configured in Wireless Bridge mode.

 

In the simpleMonitor's Wireless Bridge Tab, you have to include the MAC address of the airPoint (running in Wireless Bridge mode) it will be associating to and in the Basic Settings Tab, please use the same channel for both the airPoints.

 

Please double check the MAC address in Wireless Bridge Tab and also the Channels in the Basic Settings Tab on both the units after setting the values, to ensure that they are configured correctly.

Okay, apparently I am trying to do the impossible.

 

I have two airPoints. The only way I can get them to talk is with one being in Access Point mode and the other in Client Bridge mode.

 

If I try to go into Wireless Bridge mode on one side, no go. If I go Wireless Bridge on both sides, no go. I have no auth... and I have tried entering the MAC# on both sides just in case they are required. No go.

 

No matter what I try, only Access Point to Client Bridge is working.

 

I need to bridge one lan to another (only sending data across the link that is known to be on that side of the link... which I think my switch will handle for me). I don't want any MAC# limitations. I think there is a limitation of 64 which is fine but I can't  get any to work at all. I can't even ping the radio's IP# aside from the Access Point to Client Bridge setup.

 

HELP PLEASE!
