The AHCI ports are supported. The Intel SCU ports are *not*. I think its
fairly typical of platforms in that particular generation to use external bays
or bays where larger mass storage are expected with the SCU. The SCU was
*supposed* be superior. (For various reasons, it wasn’t. Not including the
fact that we never got drivers done for it owing not in small part due to the
ridiculously complex and buggy software stack that Intel forced everyone to use
with it. Lower level hardware specs were never made available. Then, the
hardware itself was also buggy, and Intel never figured out how to make 6Gbps
work reliably, never mind 12Gbps, if I recall.)
Hook the disks up to AHCI ports, and you should be golden. Those SCU ports are
just dead weight — usable in some OS’, but not all. And certainly not illumos.
