You still need a NX, RDP or similar client to access the desktop. AFAIK at the moment Smartos doesn't do any form of hardware passthough for GPUs if you want to do this on a local attached displays. I'd go google "kvm gpu passthrough" if you want to do that with a Linux base install/hypervisor. It's a complex area and not something I've really look into, but I'd troll though http://brianmadden.com/, kvm.org and various mailing lists in order to find the best methods for what you say you want above.
