I have my Debian installed in the NAND where it currently says "172MB
used" (of course, this is cheating since the NAND uses jffs2 which
compresses: "du -sx /" tells me 314290).

how exactly did you migrate from sd to nand?
i deletd everything in nand and copied everything ecept /usr and /var -- but according to du -hs the directories are more or less the same size, both on sd and on nand. with everything is installed debian was at about 600m on sd, which is obviously far more than the 256m in nand -- how much does jiffs2 compress and how to utilize this?
