Isn't that what happened in Australia and in England---they required all guns to be registered and then when they banned guns they used the registrations to go and collect all the guns that the law-abiding people owned.

why not?  people could still buy guns.  and the only people who should, (I repeat SHOULD) complain about registration  of their guns are those who would use them illegally.  And for black market sales, if used to commit a crime the weapon would be traced back to the seller, who would HAVE to fully cooperate with authorities just to be fined or possibly incarcerated for weapons violations.  Or maybe that is just a utopian idea.
