I am deeply impressed with Chris's idea of conduit on foam. (correct
if I am wrong).

If I were you I would further it into 3D solution from 2D. What I mean
is that 2D refers to a ring on a planar surface, while 3D is a ring
turns into a one turn helical. By that, the slot width left behind can
be nearly equal to the diameter of the wire. Have no intention to take
any credit from the originator, Chris?.
