One key bit of info is in your next sentence:

A tip-stall on launch can come from too much "up," which in turn can
come from towhook too far aft, or in this case maybe just from 4 clicks
of excess uptrim.

There's another factor, too. The wings have to generate lift that's a
function of line pull. This in turn is a function of flight speed and
lift coefficient (CL). Although you probably felt that it was safer to
try a launch with flaps at neutral, in fact it's safer to put the flaps
down 10 degrees or so, becuz your wing can deliver a higher CL and
hence are less likely to stall right after release. Stretch your
hi-start until you have a lotta pull, put the flaps down, and heave it
hard. If it starts to act squirrely, tap the nose down.
