It's personal preference. I like my low rate to be rather slow exponential, with the high rate being linear. They often have the same amount of total throw; it's the responsiveness that changes.

Dual rates can get you into trouble if you don't have a set launch
and landing procedures that include setting all the switches!
Beginners might want to have the low and high rates the same.
