I checked out the EVO thread and learned a few things - at first, it seems
like MPX finally got their act together. But...there's a couple of things
that turn out to be deal-breakers.

A few years ago, I hit the limits of my JR 8103 (doesn't take much) and
thought maybe the MPX Profi was the answer. Karlton was kind enough to
bring a demo 3030 out to the field for us to grope. I picked it up (note:
when hefting a Profi, remember to keep your back straight and lift with your
legs...) and 30 seconds later put it right back down. That was enough of
that. Went with the JR 10X and haven't yet looked back.

Now, the EVO looks good, but...

1) Model memory slots are an all in/all out affair? IOW, backing them up
to PC (or another EVO) or restoring them from a backup transfers ALL planes
in/out, without the option of selectivity. If true, this is a FATAL defect,
as it defeats one major reason to have this capability in the first place -
the ability to restore a single model without touching the others, OR to
transfer your model program to a friend's radio. This seems TOO retarded to
actually be true, but if it is...Holy Cow, Man! What the hell were they
thinking?

2) One has to rip the back of the radio off to change the RF module? Come
on...

3) Some sort of silly proprietary charge jack? Along with the possible
restricted use of some fast-chargers? Come on...

4) Lonnnnnnngggggggg delays on [insert replacement component here]. MPX
seems to have a history of delays and parts shortages (witness the recent
threads on RCSE lamenting the difficulty in just getting crystals). I
shudder to think about something major. Someone in the know - I won't
mention names - basically stated that this kind of jazz is the norm with
them.

There are some things that appear to be done better, like programming
flexibility, but until the common sense stuff and supply chain nonsense is
straightened out, I'll stick with my AR (Asian Radio, as the MPX users say).

Tom

BTW, if the EVO does make your socks go up and down, check out Joedy's
tutorial on RC Groups. Better than ANY user's manual I've ever seen.
