Jeff,
In my experience its more important to keep his interest than to worry
about how well he thermals. If he has the basics back off on the teaching
and concentrate on making sure he has fun. If the full house ship will
challenge him and keep him interested - go for it. Kids like to be just
like the grown ups. They are "insulted" if they perceive that they are
being 'talked down to'. (ie. using a 'trainer' airplane)
My son is now 19 and I've been flying with him on and off (mostly off)
since he was about 8. He likes to come to contests, maybe once or twice a
year, and always says he's going to beat me. So far I've held him off
(just barely).
I really enjoy when he comes to field to fly but college, buddies and girls
are tough competition.

he can work with. I think he will have more time for mistakes with the floater.
I am looking for pros and cons to help make the decision to move him
up... or keep him where he's at.
