I would like to run some of these types of things (Seti and the like)
but I have two basic questions, for all. !. Security
2. Cpu/monitor energy usage outweighing social good?
1. Security: This software is produced by the University of Berkeley.
I see no imperative reason to trust Red Hat, Linus Torvalds or the guy
who made your tic tac toe program more than the University of Berkeley.
2. CPU/Monitor: The idea is to use CPU energy that you are already
paying for in energy but not using for anything. You are currently
wasting about 95% of your CPU cycles because very few things you do in
the computer require more than 5% of your CPU. This software uses all
the CPU cycles you would not use otherwise, but not one cycle more, so
you won't notice a slow-down either. As for the monitor, it's not needed
to run the simulation. When you're not using your computer, turn it off.
Cheers,
Daniel.
