Howdy, Ian, haven't heard your wisdom for a while. Looks like politics and politicians are a topic all over; at least, it appears that way from the news, although the politicians might disagree.
It appears that you live in the U.K., anywhere near Marlow or High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire? I've got a cousin that lives in High Wycombe, apparently, and runs, or used to run, a garage or service shop there. Got friends down the lake who don't say anything nice about UK politicians either. They had friends come over here, 2 sets, both couples want to emigrate to Canada. Problem is, they're WASPS and under the Canadian Immigration regulations, they couldn't do it. Now, if they moved to India, China, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Outer Mongolia, Mars, or Alpha Centauri, Immigration here would give them money to live on for 5 years, set them up with jobs, free medical, and a place to live. And it sounds like your government workers can be just as bad as some of our French-(Canadian?) ones. Case in point; When my Mom brought my sister and I over in 1946 to join my Dad, who was in the Canadian Army for 1939, we got to stay in a hotel room for 2 years; it wasn't until Dad got a place through the Veterans Affairs that we finally got a decent place to live. And when I joined the Army in 1972, they told me that I wasn't a Canadian citizen, although Dad was one; seemed that if he'd fought overseas for 6 years, that didn't count. Possibly, they didn't want any more Celts in Canada, since we'd developed the country and then were expected to leave. And this was all done by government employees from Quebec working in Ottawa; they're called 'civil servants' , but they don't know the meaning of the word 'civil' or the meaning of the word 'service'. >From your e-mail address, I gather that Daniel is also a direct subject of Her Majesty; I can now understand why he doesn't like being referred to as a citizen of her North American southern colony. Why in the world they got so choked over a Tea Tax is beyond me; after all, the majority of them now drink coffee in addition to other liquids. And they're responsible for the creation of some of the most disgusting coffee houses in the world; no names, no lawsuit.
