Exactly. Plugins always nicely pave the path for re-visits or derivatives
of existing looks, and that makes up quite a few of the jobs that are out
there, but it's telling that some of the hottest "looks" out there at the
moment were mostly efforts made procedurally in Soft and houdini.

I feel sorry for the guys in max who are stuck in the trap of always tuning
this plugin or that to replicate someone else's look. I don't want to pull
levers, I want to make new stuff.

Lol...I should mention it certainly seems as if more than a few of the
current popular "looks" originally sprung from the minds of Tim Borgman and
Eric Mootz. Its amazing how many times I'm handed the same few spots as
reference by different agencies. Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on those Max
guys, heh. I should carry Tim's demo reel around with me just so I can say
"yeah got your reference right here - have you called Tim yet?" :P
