Well, you can bet that nobody involved with the decision to axe Softimage even knows what SIGGRAPH is, let alone be at the M&E booth for it, so any sort of thing that might annoy the booth staff and make their jobs harder will do just that and not much else.
Heck, it's fairly obvious that the axe folks didn't even know what Softimage was beyond a number on a spreadsheet or it wouldn't be EOL right now.
I do agree that there have got to be constructive, organizational, and beneficial things that can be done in spite of the EOL verdict on the platform of SIGGRAPH.
