Have you checked out Quadspinner? This guy and his team are brilliant. Lots of 
tools and tutorials for WM and VUE. He's the creator of GeoGlyph...

i really like world machine, and it's definitely worth springing for the 
geoglyph plugins... you can make really amazing terrain, it behaves like ice, 
and what you get out is as many hi res maps as you can deal with, so no 
compatibility issues...

Apologies for the email mishaps - here is a proper one.

Along slightly different lines but related, what do you guys prefer to create 
realistic looking landscape geometry? I am looking at World Machine and 
Terragen atm, dismissing Vue for now as the connectivity tools really suck.

Any suggestions on strengths and weaknesses or good alternatives?
